HOT Christmas dinners will be served and prepared for lonely older residents in Culcheth this December thanks to parents and teachers of Culcheth Primary School.
The parents of year six pupils have ‘teamed together’ to organise the Christmas lunch for up to 50 guests on Sunday, December 11 which will be held at the school at 3pm.
The generous group of mums will be preparing all the food while children from the school will help serve the meals.
And there will be some post-roast entertainment in the form of music and bingo for the elderly attendees to enjoy.
Organiser and year six parent, Vanessa Byrne said: “The idea came from a chat between a group of mums in year six taking about Christmas and local attractions charging extortionate prices for family events and it being a lot of pressure to do something nice.
“I said I’ve love to do a community dinner as I think our children would get so much more out of that and some of the mums said they would love to get involved with it – that idea is now a reality.”
Pupils from the school were given the task of creating a poster to advertise the meal and a just giving page was created to raise some funds for the event.
Through the generosity of local businesses and individuals, some donations have already been received and a bake sale was held on Friday, November 11 for further fundraising, with parents and children helping to provide tasty baked goods for the stall.
After initially setting a goal to raise £200 for the event the Go Fund Me page has already exceeded this amount and all contributions will be used towards the special afternoon for the elderly.
A spokesperson for Culcheth Primary School said: “We were delighted to be approached by the year six parents who had the idea for the meal.
“They really wanted the true meaning of Christmas to be valued by their children and also wanted to encourage them to volunteer and demonstrate selflessness. We can’t wait to welcome our special visitors and share the joy of the festive season.”
