TRIBUTES have been paid to a Great Sankey mum who sadly lost her battle with cancer this week having fought the disease four times.
Lisa Colledge was always smiling and “the life and soul of any party”.
She was an inspiration to everyone she met with a kind heart and a big laugh.
The 43-year-old leaves behind her husband Simon and 16-year-old daughter Sophie, her mum Barbara and brothers Gwyn and Glenn.
Heart-broken friends Cathy Beck and Rebecca Patton have set up a gofundme page to help pay for funeral costs, which has already doubled the £1,000 target.
Earlier this year, when Lisa was told the cancer had returned, her friends and family launched a gofundme page which raised £4,240 far exceeding the £500 target.
Nobody could believe that Lisa was battling cancer for the fourth time.
It was in May 2018 that Lisa first went to see the doctor with an abscess in her mouth and was told to apply a numbing cream and “see how things go”.
It didn’t get any better and after being referred to the hospital for an MRI scan, which came back clear, a biopsy showed she had oral cancer.
Lisa documented her cancer journey and vowed to be positive, raising awareness of oral cancer at every opportunity.
She had an operation in December 2018 to remove 3cm of her tongue and three of her lymph nodes as the cancer had spread but further tests showed that she also had thyroid cancer.
At the end of January 2019, Lisa had her thyroid gland removed as well as another section of her tongue and began radiotherapy in April at Liverpool Royal Hospital.
Just six months later Lisa took part in a midnight walk for St Rocco’s Hospice, where she had received therapy and counselling sessions.
A routine appointment with her consultant in 2020 highlighted a white spot in Lisa’s mouth and following a biopsy she was told that the oral cancer had returned and she needed another operation to remove it.
In February this year, Lisa had an ulcer at the back of her tongue and following more tests she was told that the cancer had come back for a fourth time and she would need chemotherapy.
Following a long battle with cancer over five years, Lisa sadly passed away on Monday, November 14.
Tributes have been pouring in for Lisa over the past few days from the dozens of people whose lives she touched.
One said she was “privileged to call her a friend” and another said “Lisa was the life and soul of every party”.
Cathy said: “Lisa was one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet and she always made herself available whenever you needed her.
“She was always making people smile and had such a bubbly personality.
“We went on holiday to Mexico twice and they were the best holidays – laughing continuously.
“Lisa was very family-orientated and adored them all.
“She loved having her nails done, especially at St Rocco’s, and always spoke her mind.
“Nobody ever had a bad word to say about her – she was genuinely a beautiful person inside and out.
“She is going to be missed so much.”
