A WARRINGTON care worker has won a prestigious regional award celebrating his outstanding support for people on end of life care.

Jamie Ashton, who is clinical lead at Three Bridges Nursing Home in Latchford, scooped the north west’s social care nurse award at this year’s Great British Care Awards after being highly commended in 2021.

The award acknowledges the important role that specialist nurses working in the care sector have in promoting the emotional, physical, psychological and social health of the people they support.

Jamie was nominated for his “bespoke approach, which ensures that families can come together to express end of life wishes” and for “providing thoughtful and respectful care in people’s final days”.

Jamie said: “I’m so happy to have gone one step further than last year and can’t believe that I’ll be competing in the national finals.

“I had an interview with the judging panel, which was really nerve-wracking, but I think they liked how I approach end of life care.

“I bring the family together and have conversations using my specially devised questionnaire.

“I find this helps people to open up, as talking about death is often taboo and can be uncomfortable.

“I’m always striving for more in my role and thinking about how I can do more to make such a difficult time a little easier for everyone.”

Jamie has been working at Three Bridges for six years after qualifying as a nurse at Chester University and completing a post in intensive care over two years.

It was his visits to see his grandmother in a care home in Workington when he was younger that sparked a desire to work in the care sector in the future.

The Great British Care Awards cover 21 categories, representing all areas of the care sector, and Jamie will now join the other regional winners at the national final on March 17 next year.
