AN inquest has been opened into the death of a HMP Risley prisoner who was found dead in his cell.
Neil Ballard died aged just 40 in the category C men's prison last month on October 26.
Earlier this week on Wednesday, Warrington Coroner’s Court formally opened an inquest into the Warrington Road inmate’s death which heard how prison staff found him dead in his cell.
A full inquest date was set for April next year.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Risley prisoner Neil Ballard died on October 26.
“Our sympathies are with his family and friends at this time
“The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed.”
Every death in custody is investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
