A DRIVER has been charged following an early morning crash on the M6 which left a man in hospital with serious injuries.
John Yates, 28, is due to appear in court today, Wednesday, following the incident on the Thelwall Viaduct in the early hours of Tuesday.
At around 12.30am, police were called to reports of a collision on the M6 northbound between junctions 20 for the M56 at Lymm and 21 for Woolston.
Officers attended the scene and found that the incident involved three vehicles – a black Peugeot 107, a white Volkswagen Scirocco and a Peugeot 307.
The driver of the Peugeot 107, a 41-year-old man from St Helens, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Salford Royal Hospital.
According to Cheshire Police, he is believed to have sustained life-changing injuries.
The road was closed for around seven hours after the incident.
Now, Yates, who is of no fixed abode, North Wales, has been charged with four counts following the crash.
Causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to provide specimen for analysis, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report that accident.
He appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday, and was remanded in custody.
He is next set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday, December 14.
