A GROUP of travellers have been ordered to remove caravans from a site in Birchwood by police.

Seven caravans pitched up on land off Ordnance Avenue on Wednesday, October 26.

The unauthorised encampment was then given temporary permission to remain by Warrington Borough Council.

But in an update today, Tuesday, Cheshire Police has served notice to the group to leave by 4pm this afternoon.

This has been confirmed by an unauthorised encampment log for Warrington and Cheshire run by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Cheshire Police has also advised the group not to use footpaths to drive vehicles when leaving.

The site had been supplied with temporary toilet facilities by the council following the temporary permission to remain on the site.

However, reports to Cheshire Police were made following vehicles from the site travelling on public pathways.

Residents reported that some travellers from the site were driving their vehicles across public pathways in Birchwood Forest Park.

One even took to social media to claim that he was almost run over by vehicles from the unauthorised site when he was in the park walking his dog.
