BIRCHWOOD Repair Café is back this weekend to help anyone with items that are in need of some TLC.

A team of dedicated volunteers descend upon Birchwood Community Centre every month to run the repair café.

The workshop is run once per month and is organised in order to help the community become less wasteful.

If items are repaired, rather than thrown out, then this creates less waste and is in turn better for the environment - not to mention cheaper than buying new products at a time when prices are climbing.

Whether it's an ornament, a bike, an instrument, or even something electrical, residents in Birchwood are being urged to head down to the repair café to avoid unnecessary waste.

The repair workshop runs from 10am until 1pm, and it is open to everyone who wishes to have something repaired.

There is only one stipulation about the café, and that is that if your item is more specialised then you should get in touch with the café before heading down, which will ensure that someone will be on hand who can provide assistance.

Birchwood Repair Café is a free service run entirely by volunteers, and although they make no guarantees about repairs, they encourage anyone to come down and see what the cafe can do for them.

Hairdryers and vacuum cleaners are often repaired by a team of volunteers, as well as ornaments and even electric keyboards.

There is no task too big or too small for the team, though they are keen to explain that they're not miracle workers.

The group says on social media: "Run by volunteers, we offer a free community repair service and café with homemade cakes.

"We are open every third Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm, with occasional changes."

Birchwood Repair Café will be open from 10am until 1pm on Saturday, November 19, from Birchwood Community Centre on Delenty Drive.
