A POPULAR Lymm event will be moved back to its traditional day following an outcry from residents.
Lymm Parish Council announced last month that festive favourite Carols from the Cross would be held on December 23 this year rather than Christmas Eve.
Organisers say this was to ensure those involed with putting it on could spend time with their own families.
But a u-turn has seen the event move back to December 24.
At an extraordinary meeting of Lymm Parish Council on Thursday, the parish council voted to move the date of the event for 2022 to Christmas Eve.
The earlier decision to hold Carols on Friday, December 23 it said was 'revisited' following a request from several parish councillors.
Cllr Bob Barr, chairman of the parish council, said: "The Carols event will only go ahead when the parish council demonstrates to Warrington Borough Council and the emergency services that it will be held safely.
"This must be in accordance with the event management plan. There must be named and qualified individuals from the parish council and the local community, signed up to accept responsibility to fulfil key roles before and during the event. This is necessary because Lymm’s Carols from The Cross has become one of Warrington’s largest public events and safety is paramount.
"The events committee was thanked for its work and it was stressed that the decision to hold the event on the 23rd was correctly and diligently taken on the basis of information available at the time.
"The parish council looks forward to welcoming the public to Lymm village centre on Christmas Eve."
Lymm Radio will also host a live broadcast from the stage before the carol singing starts. Lymm Radio will start the festive ball rolling and warm up the crowds’ vocal chords from 6pm. Town Crier, Peter Powell, will then launch the traditional carols sing song at 7pm.
Warrington Brass Band will be on stage providing the tunes, and charity collection buckets will be in circulation on the night for donations for the band.
