TALENTED students have bagged ‘prestigious’ scholarships at a high achieving Widnes Sixth Form College.

Pupils from Warrington and Widnes were amongst the bright fifteen who were selected by Cronton Sixth Form to receive the grant of up to £2,000.

The scholars were chosen after experiencing a series of interviews and were selected for scholarships in the Colleges ‘centre of excellence’ subjects; STEM, Performing Arts and Sport.

Former student at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School in Widnes, Jake Davies was awarded a sports scholarship.

He said: “I am really excited to represent Cronton as a Sports Scholar. STEM Scholar Libby Edge, former student at Wade Deacon High School in Widnes, said: “I was over the moon when I found out I had been awarded a Scholarship and was filled with pride as I’m really passionate about STEM. I can’t wait to represent the college as a scholar.”

Scholarships are given out each year by the Cronton Lane sixth form in the hope that the grant will help in allowing the students to fulfil their full potentials in their chosen subjects.

Ben Barton, Deputy Head at Cronton Sixth Form, commented, “A big congratulations to the scholarship student class of 2022, these are all very well deserved.

“The students have impressed during their first term at Cronton, they have excelled in their studies and have been fully involved in all aspects of College life, including participating in the Student Leadership Programme and representing the College in sports teams and at Open Evenings.”
