FRUIT scones with jam first and then cream or cream first then jam?
That’s always the burning question when you sit down for afternoon tea!
Town centre bar The Grand now offers the mid afternoon treat and it is just that – a treat.
There’s certainly plenty to enjoy if you’re lucky enough to be seated in one of the booths.
The sandwiches are all made fresh to order on white and brown bread with tuna mayonnaise, ham salad, egg and cress and cucumber as fillings.
They’re served on the bottom tier of a traditional cake stand with a small pot of crisps – feel free to add the crisps to one of your sandwiches!
Next up are scones – or do you do the miniature cakes next?
The fruit scones come with strawberry jam and clotted cream – it’s up to you how you construct them – and a lovely serving of fresh strawberries.
This was a nice addition.
The top tier features delicious Victoria sponge and lemon cake, both of which are generous squares, and mini chocolate brownies that melt in the mouth.
It all comes with endless tea, made with tea leaves and left to brew in glass teapots, or fresh coffee.
For the smaller appetites, there's a doggy bag option for you to take home anything you can't manage.
The portions are generous so we had lots to take away.
The Grand currently offers two afternoon tea options – £19.95 per person, with a minimum of two people making a reservation, and £29.95 per person with bottomless prosecco.
Both options are for two hours and available between 12noon and 6pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
