AN animal charity has pleaded for urgent help after a cat was ‘cruelly dumped’ in a carrier in Sankey Valley Park.

Warrington Animal Welfare (WAW) received a call at around 2pm today, Wednesday, from somebody who witnessed the cat being dumped by the bridge in the park.

The team were about to go and pick it up when a member of the public told the witness that they would bring it to them.

But as of 5pm, the cat has still not arrived at the centre.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “We have no idea what condition this cat is in.

“It could be pregnant, it could need veterinary attention, it could possibly be stolen by a disgruntled neighbour who has dumped it far from home.

“If you think you may possibly know who either dumped the cat or who removed it from the park, please get in touch or ask them to contact us.

“The woman who cruelly dumped the cat, possibly a Persian, is described as in her 30s with shoulder-length red hair.

“The woman who was supposed to bring the cat to us is described as being in her 40s, medium build and wearing a black coat.

“She has black hair in plats and wore a bobble hat. She was walking a grey Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

“It is possible that she may have decided to keep the cat but it could belong to somebody else, it could need medication or be carrying an illness or virus.

“We are very worried about this cat.

“There is usually a reason that people discard their pets in this way.”
