A LATCHFORD mum has taken on the challenge of a three-round boxing match in aid of a cancer charity.
Sammy Threlfall will be taking part in a boxing match for Cancer Research UK next Saturday, November 19.
The match will take place at the Halliwell Jones stadium, and is part of the Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) series.
This series is aimed at training amateurs to take part in boxing matches to raise money for worthy causes.
According to the organisation's website, events across Warrington have so far raised more than £150,000 in total.
Along the way, UWCB provides eight weeks of free training sessions to participants - worth around £300 - and ensures that competitors are evenly matched ahead of the fight.
Sammy, who has never boxed before, said: "I’m doing this for Cancer Research due to a close family member being diagnosed with bowel cancer, and I felt that the boxing event would take me out of my comfort zone and would be a great thing to focus on to help me through this awful time, and it’s well truly worked."
The Latchford mum has currently raised nearly £300 ahead of the fight and is being sponsored by the likes of Energie Fitness, Gladragz in Latchford Village and More Than Ladders.
During the buildup to the fight, Sammy has spent time with a personal trainer: "I have had loads of support from Lisa Langley at Energie Fitness who has helped me through my journey by putting in extra time with my training.
"I've also taken part in many classes at the gym to increase my fitness levels."
Sammy added: "Cancer Research is an amazing cause which helps loved ones in so many ways.
"If anyone could donate anything - as little or much as possible - it will go far for those in need."
Ultra White Collar Boxing will take place on Saturday, November 19, at the Halliwell Jones stadium - the event starts at 4:10pm, with entry permitted from 3pm for VIP ticket holders.
The event has a 'very strict' dress code, including a shirt and tie for male attendees, and 'evening dresses for ladies, or suitable smart trousers and a blouse.'
