THE council has confirmed they will not be replacing a lollipop lady in Burtonwood following her retirement.

Sue Sheridan retired from her crossing patrol duties on Chapel Lane last month after serving the community for nearly 30 years.

But she will not be replaced, says Warrington Borough Council.

This is following assessments carried out which showed the number of children crossing and traffic flow has ‘reduced’ over the years.

Warrington Guardian:

A WBC spokesperson said: “The school crossing patrol who operated on Chapel Lane in Burtonwood has retired.

“When a patrol gives notice of leaving we follow national methodology, known as PV2, to assess the number of children crossing the road and the volume of traffic.

“We carried out extensive PV2 assessments between July and October and the number of children crossing and traffic flow has reduced over the years.

“The results of our assessments confirm the site does not meet the minimum score for a school crossing patrol.

“Therefore this patrol will not be replaced.”
