WARRINGTON’S Emily Rudge steered her England Women side to a second big win in the Rugby League World Cup.
The England captain featured for 60 minutes of the 54-4 victory over Canada at the DW Stadium Stadium.
Her Warringtonian St Helens clubmates Jodie Cunningham and Tara Jones were both rested as head coach Craig Richards made five changes to his starting 13 from the 72-4 win against Brazil at Headingley on Tuesday.
Former Cardinal Newman High School student Rudge was perhaps quieter than usual in the second row, but the workload was shared out across the field and Woman of Steel winner Tara (York) led the try-scoring with a hat-trick plus five conversions for a personal haul of 22 points.
St Helens’ Leah Burke scored the opening try after 43 seconds and the last one in the 67th minute, while York teenager Hollie-Mae Dodd also grabbed a brace of touch downs.
Georgia Wilson (Wigan), Francesca Goldthorp (Leeds), Georgia Roche (Leeds) and Carrie Roberts (St Helens) also got over the whitewash for England, whose final group game will be against Papua New Guinea in Leeds on Wednesday.
