A MUCH-loved Warrington character has sadly died.

Peter McLean passed away earlier this week.

He was living in supported accommodation in the town centre at the time.

The 51-year-old was a familiar face in the town and could often be spotted outside the Holy Trinity Church at Market Gate.

Peter had been homeless since he was 16 and had previously spoken about the importance of the charity YMCA Warrington – which sadly closed in 2017.

In 2014, he told the Warrington Guardian: "All I want now is for the YMCA to stay open and people helping it rather than trying to shut it down.

"If everyone that had been helped by the YMCA donated a fiver it would keep it going."
