PENKETH Library is set to reopen its doors on Monday following a £120k revamp.

The transformation of the Honiton Way building includes redeveloping the frontage, replacing external woodwork as well as improvements to the internal decoration and shelving of the LiveWire-run library.

Cllr Tony Higgins, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and community, will carry out the formal reopening of the library building at 10am on Monday. The council has funded the majority of the work.

The revamp provides more flexibility of space for library and community activities, including the new Jane Forshaw Community Room – named after a local library supporter and activist who was instrumental in forming and leading the Friends of Penketh Library before her passing in 2019.

The plans have been developed by Warrington Borough Council and LiveWire, which manages the library, together with Friends of Penketh library. The financial contribution made by Friends of Penketh Library has contributed to the refresh of the children’s library as part of works at the site.
