THE final conditions for a new housing development in Latchford have been met, according to the council.

Planning documents approved on Tuesday, November 1, show that the development has met the conditions set out by Warrington Borough Council.

Richmond Street social club, in Latchford, had been on the site since the 1930s, but demolition work began on the club in August 2020 after the club closed its doors in 2019.

The first residents were welcomed to the housing complex earlier this year, before work was complete on the site.

Warrington Borough Council outlined conditions that the development had to meet before it could be completed - the conditions included an assessment of contaminated land, and verifying 'gas protection measures.'

The planning committee outlined these conditions in December, and the council has announced it is satisfied that the conditions have been met.

Latchford's new development is Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s second development in Warrington and forms part of their five-year development plan to build more than 600 homes by 2024 across Cheshire and Warrington.

This complex comprises 26 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom apartments.

There are electric charging points on the site, and solar panels have been installed to help generate power for the complex, too.

The site was visited by Warrington South MP Andy Carter when residents first moved in, which was in May.

At the time, Mr Carter said: "Sites like this meet the Government’s ambition to support housing association development on brownfield areas and I’m really pleased that Weaver Vale Housing Trust have chosen Latchford to build their first new homes in the town.

“Given the high demand for housing in Warrington it’s encouraging to see developments like Bowlers View with modern, safe and affordable housing that’s fit for the future, and I’m really pleased that these new homes will soon be ready for occupation."

Jo Fallon, assistant director of development at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said: "These are modern homes that not only meet our high fire safety standards but will also support the use of green energy, helping reduce costly fuel bills for customers.

"We believe new build homes should not only meet tenants’ needs now but into the future as we move towards a greener, more sustainable way of living."
