A GROUP of travellers who set up an unauthorised caravan camp in Birchwood have been allowed to stay.
Seven caravans were reported to have pitched up on land off Ordnance Avenue on Wednesday, October 26.
Last week, it was confirmed that Warrington Borough Council had visited the site to conduct assessments and welfare checks.
This was according to an unauthorised encampment log for Cheshire and Warrington run by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
That same log has confirmed this morning, Tuesday, that the group has now been temporarily permitted to remain on the council-owned land.
When previously asked about the creation of a traveller transit site, a council spokesman confirmed that this was still the aim.
They said: “We are continuing to work with our partners to identify a suitable traveller transit site in the borough.
“The need for this is fully established in the submitted proposed local plan that was subject to examination in public in September.”
