READERS shared their views on the upcoming swing bridge closure in Stockton Heath.

This comes after a letter to the editor which claimed the closure could be a ‘disaster’.

The Appleton resident claimed last week’s temporary lights in the village caused ‘traffic chaos’ with huge queues and cars unable to move.

“What will it be like when the road is totally closed?” they said.

The swing bridge is set to close for around nine months next year to allow for a £6 million refurbishment.

Warrington Guardian readers took to Facebook to share their views on the upcoming closure.

People moaned and whinged for two years to get this done, what did they expect? A bloke in white overalls with a ladder and a tin of Hammerite? It's a massive job, it's likely they will sandblast it first.

Ray Tickle

People stop moaning about the bridge. It needs repairing it needs re-painting. Make other arrangements for your journey!

Jackie Johns

Surely it is cheaper and quicker to make a new bridge and lift it into place.

Rob Glassey

The traffic will be diverted to Latchford bridges which is already chaos. Took me 30 minutes twice to get from coop Knutsford Road to Lidl at 4:30pm. Latchford is already gridlocked at key times because Grange Avenue is shut. Good luck everyone getting to south of Warrington!

Rebecca Keeling

No chaos here, although I use both Latchford and Stockton Heath bridge every day to get to work and back. The only difference being is I walk so will still take me only an hour every morning and afternoon.

Rachael Lahan

Could be? That's an understatement of the year.

Norman Stanley Fletcher

Rather than complaining about what are they going to do about it ask what are you going to do about it, plan your route set off earlier and get on with it, it needs doing and this is how it is being done.

Lewis Hollington

There are three other bridges five minute walk from this one, what chaos?

Saraev Andrei

I think I might be heading Northwich way for shopping... oops, now everyone will do it!

Christine Woolfenden

Plan ahead and take another route.

Gaz Davies

Moans because the bridge is an eyesore then moans when something is done about it.
