THOUSANDS of pounds are up for grabs for community groups in Culcheth as part of a new scheme.
The Freedom Fund opened for applications on Monday, October 31, and is open to any community group that is involved with environmental work.
Non-profit community groups can apply for grants of up to £250 each if they are involved with delivered environmental projects.

The fund is being coordinated by Freedom Fibre, a company responsible for rolling out 'lightning-fast' fibre-optic broadband across the region.
Applications can be sent to Freedom Fibre between Monday, October 31 and Friday, December 16.
An initial round of funding will take place in the winter of 2022, with the second round of funding being implemented in 2023.
Freedom Fibre’s CEO, Neil McArthur, said: “The Freedom Fund is set to support dozens of good and green causes across Culcheth over the next few years.
"I’m really excited to see what applications we receive!"
The Freedom Fund is also applicable to community groups in Whitchurch, Weaverham, and Irlam.
In order to be eligible to apply for the fund, groups must meet two of the following ten criteria:
- Contributes to cleaner air
- Contributes to cleaner and plentiful water
- Supports plants and wildlife to thrive
- Reduces the risk of harm from environmental hazards such as flooding and drought
- Uses resources from nature in a sustainable and efficient way
- Enhances the beauty and heritage of the natural environment, and engagement with it
- Mitigates climate change
- Minimises waste
- Manages exposure to chemicals
- Enhances biosecurity
Community groups across the areas that Freedom Fibre covers will be eligible to apply for the community fund.
