A BOGUS utility company worker was caught going door-to-door in Great Sankey.

He was reported to Cheshire Police by concerned residents, with checks with the utilities company confirming he was a fraudster.

Members of the public are urged to complete the relevant checks before letting anyone into their home.

Meanwhile, PCSOs also conducted high-visibility foot patrol around Mapplewell Crescent, Bunny Hollow and surrounding areas.

In a statement, the force’s Great Sankey South Police team said: “We have received a report of a suspicious male posing as a member of staff from a utility company.

“After the reporting person checked over the phone with their supplier, it was confirmed that this male was a fraud.

“Please challenge anyone who knocks on your door claiming to read your meters. These people may look professional and may aim to confuse you.

“Always ask for ID and always check with your supplier before letting anyone into your home.

“If you come across anything of a similar nature, please contact us on 101 or use one of the below tools online.”
