MAJOR disruption affected the railway this afternoon, Friday.
This was due to an emergency incident on the tracks between Warrington and Liverpool.
Sadly, it has now been confirmed that this was due to a death on the tracks.
As a result, the line was blocked while emergency services are present, reopening at around 4pm.
A number of trains were cancelled from Warrington Central station, in turn impacting services from other stations in the town.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to Halewood station at 1.21pm today, Friday, October 28, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
In a statement, rail operator Northern said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Liverpool South Parkway and Warrington Central, the line is blocked.
“Services running through these stations will be delayed or cancelled.”
