THE BBC's newest show SAS Rogue Heroes features an actor from Warrington.
Corin Silva will play ‘Gentleman’ Jim Almonds in the show based on the true story of the formation of the SAS during the Second World War.
Corin is Warrington born and bred, having attended Broomfields Junior School.
In speaking to us, he said that he “was always the only one who wanted a part in years three, four, five and six, so they tended to just give me the lead at Broomfields.”
After this, the actor went on to take drama at Bridgewater High School and later at Priestley College.
Now, he is starring in a prime-time BBC drama alongside Sex Education’s Connor Swindell, Skins star Jack O’Connell and Game of Thrones alumni Alfie Allen, on a show written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
Speaking about his early days on set, Corin said: “I couldn’t believe it. I had such imposter syndrome, I just really felt like I didn’t belong and got really and got really bad anxiety from it.
“I was talking to the director Tom Shankland and I told him how I was feeling and he just told me 'Corin, I love what you’re bringing as Jim'.
"All the stars Alfie, Connor, Jack, they were all so sweet which really helped, and eventually I was able to just get on with it on set.”
SAS Rogue Heroes is a predominantly true retelling of the unbelievable story of how the SAS was formed in Africa during the Second World War.
L-Unit, or the SAS, were intended as a highly trained, largely autonomous unit that would parachute in under the dead of night, sabotage Nazi and Italian air forces from the ground, and escape out into the desert.
Corin, 29, plays Jim Almonds, one of the founding commandos that took part in the first SAS mission.
In order to play the role, he went under a two-week SAS commando boot camp with the president of the SAS Regimental Association undertaking their training.
Not all his SAS preparation went to plan though, and he said: “I did book a skydive after I booked the part, but turns out I’m too heavy.
"They actually kept my deposit, they told me I could do it I lost 10 kilos and I didn’t, so that didn’t happen.”
Every story has a start.

Integral to the SAS’s formation, contrary to the protocol at the time, was to do away with ranks, titles, and in large part all protocol.
As such, the camaraderie that was formed was deemed to be much stronger than other units in the war, which was something very important to recreate amongst the cast.
“We had to quarantine for three weeks in Morocco, and so we had beers in the Sahara on the dunes every night… we just all became great mates which was so important,” Corin added.
This all, however, raised the biggest question of all. Did Corin try to sneak any Warrington easter-eggs into the show?
“No, no, I didn’t actually, because I was being Jim and I was trying to be true to him, to do him justice… but maybe in season two we can get Wolfie to walk across in the background though.”
Corin has also been cast in another show written by Steven Knight with the upcoming All The Light We Cannot See.
He will star alongside Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie, with Shawn Levy, the Director of Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy, set to helm the series.
See Corin in SAS Rogue Heroes every Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
