WARRINGTON welcomed back one of the legends of the rugby league commentary box last night.

Andrew Voss again visited the town as part of BBC TV coverage of the Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands Rugby League World Cup game at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Vossy, as he is widely known, shared his love for the town on social media after the game, especially The Rodney pub.

This is despite him experiencing train troubles on his way to Warrington after being on a quest to find the perfect pie.

The Australian spent the afternoon in Wigan pre-game after being told it was the place to be – he mustn’t have heard about Warrington’s many great pie shops.

“I have come half way around the world chasing the world’s best pie, and I am told that Galloway’s is a serious contender,” he said on Twitter.

He described the Galloway’s pies as having ‘almost an angelic glow’, giving them five Vs in his personal rating scale.

“I seriously had no idea that Wigan was so beautiful. Great to be here, smelling the fresh air and pies around. What a beautiful place,” he added.

But disaster struck when he ended up in Crewe on his way to Warrington, after which he said: “Breaking news, commentator lost. See you soon, I hope, in Warrington.”

After arriving back in the town, he posted: “Well folks, they say life, it is not about the destination, it is about the journey.

“This Australian commentator totally stuffed up this afternoon, missed his stop in Warrington, ended up in Crewe, train delayed, now back to Warrington, now walking to the ground.

“Can’t wait to get there. How I love the Rugby League World Cup, what an adventure.”

He ended the night with a photo outside The Rodney saying: “Great to be out and about in Warrington tonight. Love this place.”
