THE popular Carols from The Cross event is back this year.

But for the first time, the date has been changed from Christmas Eve to December 23

Lymm Radio will be working in partnership with Lymm Parish Council once more, making sure that those who are unable to attend in person can listen live across the radio waves.

Organisers say various reasons were behind the reason to move dates including costs, but primarily, for those who make the event happen.

They added: "This change allows all those involved in putting on the event – from partner organisations, St Mary’s Church, Councillors and staff – to be able to enjoy Christmas with their families, loved ones and friends on Christmas Eve."

Lymm Radio will also host a live broadcast from the stage before the carol singing starts. Lymm Radio will start the festive ball rolling and warm up the crowds’ vocal chords from 6pm. Town Crier, Peter Powell, will then launch the traditional carols sing song at 7pm.

Warrington Brass Band will be on stage providing the tunes, and charity collection buckets will be in circulation on the night for donations for the band.

There will also be more speakers (with more power) to make sure that everyone can hear and join in. This will all be staged from the Lower Dam.

Councillor Ben Selwood and chairman of the parish council events committee said “We are excited to be bringing Carols back to the village this year, however, we understand that the change of date is a marmite situation – it will be better for some but maybe not for others.

"We are looking forward to welcoming as many of our residents as possible back to the village on Friday, December 23.”

The roads will be closed from 5.30pm.
