A FORMER bank in the heart of Stockton Heath is up for sale.

NatWest, located on London Road, closed in September this year due to the ‘dramatic change’ in the way that people bank.

It joined Lloyds, Barclays and HSBC who have all moved out of the village in recent years - meaning Stockton Heath residents have no bank to use.

The nearest branch for residents is now on Sankey Street, followed by the one on Widnes Road in Widnes.

At the time, Natwest claimed that closing a branch is ‘always a difficult’ and not a decision that is ever ‘taken lightly’.

‘For sale’ signs are now up outside the building.

Additionally, plans were submitted in September to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department to make alterations to the closed bank.

These consisted of the removal of all external NatWest signage and marketing.

The plans also aimed to remove the cash machines and fill in the holes in the wall to match the existing façade.

The former Natwest joins other sites of former businesses in the village that are now up for sale, including Terrace Bistro which announced its shock closure at the start of the month.

The popular restaurant, also on London Road, proved a hit in the village but closed due to the impact of Covid and some ‘life-changing circumstances’.
