A WARRINGTON woman's writing group, set up at the Warrington Disability Partnership, is set to release its third book compiling the group's work.
In 2017, Cilla Shiels lost her husband, Mike. Both had taught many disabled children at Warrington Collegiate, and liased with the Warrington Disability Partnership frequently as a result.
When Mike tragically died of a heart attack, Cilla held a fundraiser for the Beaufort Street charity with which she had worked regularly, and was contacted by someone at the centre after she went in to drop off the £500 in donations.
That person offered their condolences asked whether Cilla, an accomplished writer who has published 15 books to date, would be willing to teach a six-week writing course called the 'All Seasons Writing Group'.
Six weeks became six months, which this last September became six years.
In her time running the group Cilla has collated various short stories, poems, and anecdotes written by the group into volumes, with the group having just recently come out with their third.
Cilla and Mike adopted Warrington as their home thirty years ago when they moved, him from Bolton and her from St. Helens, and Cilla now lives in the Fairfield and Howley area, continuing to call Warrington home to this day.
On the success of the group Cilla said: "I get a huge amount of pleasure running the group and I’ve enjoyed seeing members develop their writing skills over the past five years... the group are keen to write, their work is worthy of being published and the look on their faces when they see the finished product is a sight to behold."
Warrington Disablity Partnership Chief Executive Dave Thompson MBE DL said : "Over the 32 years I have run the partnership, we have supported lots of groups, and the writing group are great to have on board. It's very therapeutic for disabled people and great to see today people can get their work published.
"We look forward to many more years working together!"
The 'All Seasons Writing Group' - Volume 3 is available for purchase now on Amazon. An extract from the book can be found below.
