CULCHETH and Glazebury are set for a signal boost, as plans have been approved for the installation of a new 5G mast.
The new mast will be installed to replace outdated equipment that has been on the site for a number of years.
A new mast will be installed in the car park of Partridge Lakes Fishery, on Glaziers Lane.
Equipment has been on the site in one form or another since an initial mast was installed in 1998, before being updated in 2009.
Now, plans have been approved by the council to scrap the current equipment on site, in favour of installing a new 20-metre mast on the site.
This mast is being installed by EE, and is set to bring reliable 4G and 5G coverage to the area, as well as boost phone signal in the vicinity, too.
Included in the installation of the new mast will be six antennas and three telecommunications dishes.
The new equipment will be housed within a two-metre fenced area on the car park of the fishery.
A total of 16 sites were considered for the home of the new mast, including areas at Leigh Golf Course and Culcheth Linear Park.
The developers say that the mast 'should be considered critical infrastructure within the UK to support the local community in perpetuity.'
No objections were received by the council for the installation of the new mast.
Work is expected to begin at the site in the coming weeks.
