ALMOST five per cent of pensioners in Warrington are returning to work in order to combat the cost-of-living crisis.
As revealed by Belvoir lettings, the continued rise of bills, financial instability, and continued rise in inflation has led to what Belvoir Director Gary Pemberton described as "the great unretirement".
The number of working Warrington over-65s has increased progressively for several years now, however the jump in July sees a marked increase, the largest ever monthly increase by a significant margin.
Mr Pemberton, from the Sankey Street based lettings firm, went on to say this is a result of the current climate "squeezing every level of society" and that this news is greatly "significant for that age category."
The move has also seen many OAPs looking to resize their homes and give up spare rooms in their properties, with 17,199 of the 30,898 Warrington OAPs having two or more spare bedrooms.
As such, elder people from Warrington can reportedly free up an average of £84,690 per household by downsizing.
