CHILDREN from a Culcheth school came together to celebrate and honour their classmate.

This was in recognition of World Cerebral Palsy Day – a motor disability that Alby Adamson has.

Cerebral Palsy impacts Alby in different ways and each day can be different for him. For the year four pupil, the disability affects his whole body – including his balance, coordination and muscle tone.

The eight-year-old celebrates the day each year in order to raise awareness of Cerebral Palsy and this year he was joined by his school friends at Culcheth Community Primary School.

The pupils wore green T-shirts designed by Alby’s mum to show their support for what a ‘legend’ he is.

Alby loves to talk about his motor disability and is very open to chat about it with anyone who wants to listen.

“He has the best attitude and we hope this sticks with him as he grows up,” his mum Emily Renshaw said.

A staff member from Culcheth Community Primary School added: “We are incredibly proud of the way our children support each other and celebrate the diversity we have in our school community.

“We truly have the best children!”

Alby’s message following World Cerebral Palsy Day is: “Having a disability can be difficult sometimes but you can achieve big things if you just never give up.”

Alby had a huge operation last year called selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) -  a surgical procedure that reduces the spasticity in the lower limbs.

Emily told the Warrington Guardian how because of this operation, he doesn’t have as many muscle spasms in his legs anymore and the pain he suffered with his lower body has been ‘significantly reduced’.

“He still struggles with his upper body which can impact his day-to-day life, including pain and spasms even in his mouth and throat, which can sometimes be scary,” added Emily.

“But you honestly wouldn’t know it - his strength and determination are his biggest qualities.

“He has a ‘never give up’ attitude and sees most things in life as a competition and is always competing with himself to improve, which giving everything he has to go through is unbelievable.”
