A TEMPORARY car park which residents say has caused a number of issues in the area is set to be abandoned.

Old Hall residents have received an update from Warrington South MP Andy Carter regarding Amazon using space at a car park at Gulliver’s World theme park.

The MP met with residents in August, where he was told about planning issues, speeding vehicles, dangerous driving and cars parking on the pavements.

In his update, he says that Amazon has confirmed it will shortly be leaving its temporary delivery hub off Shackleton Close and transferring operations to a new permanent site on Omega.

In a letter to residents, Mr Carter said: “I have been working closely with Cllr Linda Butler in taking action to address the issues raised such as noise disturbance and road safety.

“The temporary intervention to planning legislation, allowing home delivery firms to extend their delivery hubs during the pandemic, has now ended.

“As such, I have made Amazon aware of its responsibilities to comply with planning requirements.

“I have also spoken to enforcement officers at Warrington Borough Council to raise your concerns, and they are aware if the issues at hand.

“Following discussions with Amazon, I can advise that it will be leaving the site shortly and are currently in discussions with council planners to finalise its move to a new permanent site in Omega withing the next couple of weeks.”

The MP says he has been given assurances that this matter will be prioritised by the council.

He adds: “In the intermediate period, I have also received assurances from Amazon that drivers will be instructed to be cautious when exiting the Gulliver’s World site, and that if other issues are raised in relation to the ongoing problems at the site, they will be dealt with promptly.

“I am pleased that progress is being made in relation to that issue, and I will be following matters closely to ensure Amazon vacates in the time frame it has agreed to.

“I have also raised concerns about parking and road safety with Cheshire Police and the council’s parking enforcement.

“They have both been advised and they will be making additional visits to address concerns.”
