A DUNKIRK veteran from Orford celebrated his 100th birthday last week, surrounded by his family and friends.
John Blanchard - known by many as Jack - was born in 1922, and served with the RAF during the second world war.
He was stationed in Devon and Scotland and went to Dunkirk two days after the initial landings took place.
Jack then worked at the Tetley Walker brewery, where he met his future wife, Edith, before marrying in March 1948 - the couple celebrated the birth of their first son, John, in October 1948.
The couple moved to Howson Road in Orford with their new family in 1955.
Jack worked most of his life in the Crosfield Chemicals plant, before retiring in 1986.
He is a huge fan of rugby league, with his favourite team - naturally - being Warrington Wolves.
Jack used to enjoy ballroom dancing with his beloved Edith, and he was also an avid crown green bowler - he could often be found frequenting Rylands Social Club.
After his retirement, Jack took a night class to earn himself an O Level in art - in his spare time, he also volunteered with the St John's Ambulance team; though his son, John, says this was probably to get free tickets to the rugby!
Jack was born off Norman Street, and has lived most of his life in Warrington.
He is now a resident of Woodleigh Residential Care Home, in Callands.
Alongside family and friends, Jack celebrated his 100th birthday on October 9, and his son added: "Thank you to Debi and Zoe, and all the staff at Woodleigh, for organising a wonderful afternoon for dad's 100th birthday."
