FIRE crews rushed to Higher Walton last night, Wednesday, to rescue a dog that was stuck in open water down an embankment.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm on Hough Lane Bridge.

One fire engine from Warrington, one from Lymm, and an Animal Rescue Unit from Lymm attended the scene.

The team made their way on foot to reach the area where the dog, a Springer Spaniel named Libby, was then rescued.

A Lymm Fire Station spokesperson said: “Green watch at Lymm Fire Station were mobilised to an incident this afternoon in Walton to springer spaniel “Libby” who managed to get herself stuck in open water down an embankment.

“Swift water technicians brought her back to safety and back to her owner.”
