A new apartment block changing the face of a major junction in Warrington.
Chevys Sports Bar, in Padgate, was demolished in summer last year in order to make way for 30 flats.
And pictures from the site show that the building is now rapidly taking shape at the junction of Manchester Road and Padgate Lane.
Previously known as the Cemetery Hotel, the Good Companions and Formbys, the lost watering hole dated back to the 1870s but had been vacant since 2017.
Seven two-bedroom units and 23 one-bedroom apartments are under construction.
Some residents had objected to the development – raising concerns over traffic, parking and the design being out of character.
The original designs were described as being ‘like a prison, imposing, bleak and an eyesore’.
Amended drawings then reduced the number of residential units from 34 and added 32 car parking spaces.
Manchester-based applicant Alderley Holdings Ltd stated that the cost of repairing the establishment – which sat opposite Warrington Cemetery and was described as being in a ‘very dilapidated condition’ – would have been up to £750,000.
Warrington Borough Council granted planning permission for the scheme in April last year.
