WORK to build new apartments on a former car park in Warrington town centre could close a road for 34 weeks.

The car park on the corner of White Street and Parker Street, close to Bank Quay station will be used for a new apartment block.

Warrington Housing Association is building four flats on the site after Warrington Borough Council approved the plan.

Documents submitted to Warrington Borough Council state: "Our aim is to provide four new high quality apartments for affordable housing on the site that not only sits within its existing environment but also complements it as well.

"The scheme will not only provide new, affordable apartments for the immediate area but will also repair the presently divided street scene, sewing the terraced street back together."

Now the council says White Street will close for 34 weeks from Monday, November 7 while the work is carried out.

White Street will shut from the junction of Dixon Street and Parker Street.

The closure is required to allow for the safe unloading of materials required for the construction of new properties for Warrington Housing Association.
