A FORMER teacher from Cardinal Newman Catholic High School, in Latchford, is raffling off his house so he can move back to Warrington.
Declan Garrett, 38, used to teach at the high school in Latchford, before moving to Weston-super-Mare in 2020.
He, along with his three children moved to the town near Bristol in order to live with Declan's friend Leoni-fay, who he met online.
Leoni-fay has four children of her own, and Declan moved himself and his three children in with her in 2020.
In August of 2020, Declan and Leoni-fay eloped to Gretna Green in Scotland to get married - taking their seven children with them.
Declan and Leoni-fay now wish to move back to Warrington, along with their seven children, because living in the south of the country is becoming even more expensive than living in the north.
Declan himself is from Golborne, and is now looking for a house in Warrington large enough for his large family.
In order to sell the family's current home, Declan is raffling it off - with entries being just £3 each.
Declan said: "If we sell enough tickets someone will get our house and we get 90 per cent of the ticket sales to pay off the mortgage and get a new place.
"If we don’t sell enough tickets someone will still win and they get 75 per cent of the ticket sales and we retain the house."
Declan and Leoni-fay did lots of research and decided that raffling their house is a 'no loss' way of trying to improve their situation.
Despite having around £150,000 in collateral, the couple is adversely affected by mortgage checks due to having seven children - so raising funds through a raffle seemed a good course of action for the large family.
Tickets for the raffle begin at £3 each, and the raffle itself closes on Friday, October 21.
More information on the raffle, and how to enter, can be found here.
