A PRIMARY school in Sankey Bridges unveiled its new £10,000 memorial garden on 'World Mental Health Day.'

The unveiling took place on Monday, October 10, and was attended by Warrington South MP Andy Carter.

Funds awarded from the National Lottery will create an artificial grass area, as well as a produce garden.

Trees in the garden will have plaques dedicated to pupils, staff, or family members who died during the pandemic.

Jacqueline Breeze, a learning mentor at the school, is one of the staff members leading the project.

She said: "It will be a place for reflection for the children, parents and the wider community and people will be able to drop in for advice on mental health and welfare.

"In time they will also be able to use the space to grow and help themselves to produce."

The MP for Warrington South said that he had loved spending time at the school, and planned to return and speak to the year six pupils about democracy in the UK.
