A CONTROVERSIAL business park development in Birchwood is still causing chaos, with another company having abandoned the site.
Spibey Electrical could be found on Trident Business Park in Birchwood for 25 years, but they made the hard decision to leave the site amid development plans.
The plans, submitted by St Modwen Logistics, have proved deeply unpopular with residents and local councillors - as well as some businesses, too.
Birchwood Town Council unanimously voted in opposition to the plans that are currently under consideration at Warrington Borough Council.
The plans involved the construction of warehouses to accommodate operations that would take place around the clock.
Residents claim that the developments would wipe thousands off their house prices, and also lead to an increase in traffic, on an already-busy road.
Now, another business has come forward saying that they had to leave their premises as a result of the developments.
Spibey Electrical is a family-run business, and they refute the claim that St Modwen made that they helped to relocate affected businesses.
The small company said: "To claim they have liaised closely with tenants is a joke, offering support is nonsense, helping occupiers find alternative premises takes the biscuit.
"After 25 years as a tenant, we did not get any help whatsoever - three months' notice, then a request for the keys.
"That's the only communication we had."
Spibey Electrical say that it's difficult finding alternative premises for small businesses in Warrington - echoing the claims of another small business that has left the business site.
Spibey Electrical added: "All you see now in and around Warrington are new huge warehouses.
"There are so many empty warehouses around Birchwood at the moment but nothing suitable for small businesses."
St Modwen was contacted for comment and referred to its earlier statement.
A spokesperson for the developers previously said: "We submitted revised plans to redevelop Trident Business Park, delivering two new sustainable warehouses and providing employment opportunities and substantial economic growth to the local area.
“Throughout the planning process, we have liaised closely with Trident Business Park tenants offering support to those remaining on-site including helping occupiers find alternative premises if required.”
