A LIVERPOOL-based stage show is heading to the Parr Hall next month.
'Twopence to Cross the Mersey' was written by Helen Forrester, and is a frank and honest account of her life growing up in Liverpool during the 1930s and '40s.
Her book was adapted into a stage show in 1994, and the hit production has begun its nationwide tour of 14 different venues - with the Parr Hall being one of them.
The fan-favourite show heads to the town centre's theatre on Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9.
The tour also includes dates in Stockport, Crewe, St Helens, Blackpool, Darlington, Halifax, Croydon, Coventry, Lichfield, Bolton and Southport – before concluding in Liverpool at the Epstein Theatre.
Playwright and producer Rob Fennah explained: “We’re overjoyed that we’re opened the UK premiere tour of 'Twopence to Cross the Mersey', it’s been well worth the wait.
"And we have been delighted with the audience reactions to the show so far, we have a wonderful cast to tell Helen’s fascinating story."
The show itself features a small cast of only nine performers - one of whom being Mark Moroghan, from Coronation Street, Brookside, and Holby City.
Another is Jenny Murphy, who plays Helen, and she was chosen from an open casting call.
The playwright added: "[Helen's] story is one which needs to be told to young and old alike.
"It’s a very special experience for everyone involved – we’re all custodians of her incredibly honest writing that everyone can relate to, especially given today’s difficult economic climate."
'Twopence to Cross the Mersey' is at the Parr Hall on Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9.
