CONTROVERSIAL plans to demolish a listed property and build several new homes have been axed, following criticism.
The plans were submitted to Warrington Borough Council in October 2020, but they have since been withdrawn.
Proposed developments would have seen the refurbishment of Cinnamon Brow Farmhouse, and the demolition of the barn that stands on the land.
Both the farmhouse and the barn are listed buildings.
Any plans to alter listed buildings must be done so in consultation with Historic England - the organisation welcomed plans to refurbish the farmhouse, but objected to the demolition of the barn.
In a letter sent by Historic England, the organisation says: "The loss of the barn would lead to total loss of significance and so lead to substantial harm.
"The submitted structural appraisal is not robust enough or adequately substantiated to justify complete demolition of the building."
Poulton with Fearnhead Parish Council also objected to the development, with Cllr Graham Friend - Deputy Mayor of Warrington - writing: "I wish to object to the planning applications.
"I believe they are overbearing and not in keeping with the area."
The plans would have seen the construction of six houses on the land, as well as the renovation of the listed farmhouse and the demolition of the barn.
