VIOLENT crime reduced in Earlestown due to a police crackdown.
Introduced in 2005, St Helens Against Night-Time Disorder (STAND) aims to combat alcohol-related violence and disorderly behaviour on Friday and Saturday nights.
Police officers, working in partnership with trading standards, pubs and retailers, carry out walk throughs on licensed premises and use initiatives to ensure that visitor's nights are drug free.
As a result, sales of alcohol to children have been prevented and in the three years since STAND began, a 17 per cent decrease of violent offences has been recorded.
Chief Superintendent Peter Brinkley, said: "We and our partners have been particularly proactive in tackling alcohol-fuelled violence, targeting those who sell alcohol to under 18s, bars and clubs which promote irresponsible and rowdy behaviour, and drunken people who cause violent disorder.
"Reducing violent crime remains a priority for Merseyside Police. It will not be tolerated and we will strive to reduce the number of offences further in the future."
