A FOOTBALL team is the pride of its school after retaining the title it last won four years ago.
The St Mary's Catholic Junior School pupils beat Newton Primary School 2-0 in the final to secure the Tom Finney Shield.
The tournament, organised by St Aelred's Catholic Technology College, was attended by four Newton primary schools and took place at the college.
Pupils from the Barny Way school recently represented St Helens in a Merseyside Cup competition but the team of 10 and 11 year olds missed out on a place in the finals at Anfield after being knocked out in the semi-finals.
Head teacher, Gerry Southworth, said: "The school is very proud of the boys' achievement.
"It makes up for the disappointment of just missing out on the opportunity of playing at Anfield."
