A NEWTON woman has been given a community order for committing benefit fraud.
Emma Sergent, of Wargrave Road, Newton, pleaded guilty four offences when she appeared at St Helens Magistrates' Court on March 25.
The court heard that she committed the offences of failing promptly to notify St Helens Council of a change in her circumstances, with a view to obtaining housing and council tax benefits.
Sergent failed to declare that her partner had moved in with her, which resulted in an overpayment of benefit totalling £3,557.66 She was sentenced to an 80-hour community punishment order, told to pay £40 costs and to pay back the full overpayment.
