PLANS to move a Newton health centre to a modernised practice have been quashed after plans were deemed unsuitable.
Last June, Dr Sanjay Pitalia's plans to build a single-storey doctor's surgery on Belvedere Road were approved with conditions.
After further consideration Dr Pitalia was unable to transform the existing surgery into a modern general practice, and submitted plans to move the centre to Belvedere Road, Newton.
The application, made in January, would have seen former office blocks on Belvedere Road transformed into a four-storey building, including a doctor's surgery, medical services unit and pharmacy on the ground floor.
The upper levels would have contained 16 flats.
The council rejected the plans on grounds the new building would overshadow houses on Randall Close and Belvedere Road and there was a shortfall of 13 car parking spaces.
