WEDDING cakes can be made from anything these days – cupcakes, doughnuts and even slices of cheese.
But how about one made of pork pies?
A Fearnhead bakery that has been dishing up some tasty pastry offerings to hungry customers is offering you something a little bit different for your special day.
And the award-winning business has also paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen following her death last Thursday.
The popular family-run business scooped our Best for Pies 2022 award earlier this year after opening their doors in 2019 just before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Qualified chef and former Padgate High School student Shane Neild and Lindsay James started selling their pies on artisan markets but would quickly sell out, so they decided to open a shop.
Over the past three years, To Pie For has won 13 honours at the British Pie awards in Melton Mowbray and can now add their Pie of the Year award to the growing collection.
Lindsay said: “We were absolutely delighted to win seeing that we are still classed as new company and were up against companies that have been going for decades.
“We love our fans and our customers and we wouldn't be where we are today without them.”
If you don’t have a sweet tooth or fancy something more savoury when you tie the knot, To Pie For can create a wedding cake made entirely of pork pies.
They sell 1lb artisan pork pies, steak pies as well as small, ready to eat pies in their shop and customers can also enjoy a hot meal of pie and mash if they visit the premises.
Their top pie is filled with pork, pistachio and apricot and their full English breakfast offering has been a huge hit.
Every Wednesday there is a pie of the week special, which this week contains haggis, neeps and tatties with a whisky sauce, in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
A taste test of their pies at the Warrington Guardian offices when they were named Best Pie 2022 gave their pie of the week – BBQ pulled pork and cheese – 10 out of 10 with the steak and peppercorn, and the vegan curried chickpea and vegetable creations coming a close joint second with nine out of 10.
Next up for Shane and Lindsay will be a pasty place having secured the patent and set up a new company called To Pasty For, which will launch next year.
