Bruised Bolton fans express their views.

The excitement of going to the away leg of a recent UEFA Cup football match was tainted for two Warrington residents this month The two Bolton fans travelled to Madrid to watch the Bolton Wanderers v Athletico Madrid UEFA Cup tie and, during the match, the home fans started fighting among themselves.

One Bolton fan commented: "It was very surreal. The home fans split into two factions behind the goal, leaving a large no-man's land between the two. We didn't really know what was going on. Then we just watched in disbelief as the two sets of home fans started fighting among themselves. It took the police a good ten minutes to take any action. They just left them to it."

It was later discovered that the fighting was as a result of disagreements of how Athletico Club is run.

He finished by saying: "I've watched Bolton since the early 1970s and it's the first time I've been more scared about the police, who are supposed to be protecting me, than the opposition fans. We will not be going to a European match in Spain, ever again".
