HEAVY waste wagons travelling to and from Arpley Landfill Site in Great Sankey will be re-routed for three months following complaints from Liverpool Road residents.
Currently the lorries turn right on to Liverpool Road and leave via Penketh Lane Ends, passing the same houses in both directions doubling the amount of noise, exhaust fumes and vibration for those residents.
But following an agreement between Arpley Landfill Liaison Group and Mersey Waste Transport, the vehicles will now turn left on to Liverpool Road and return via the Crosfield's junction and Sankey Way for the trial period.
Clr Alan Litton (LD - Great Sankey South) negotiated the agreement with the waste firm.
He said: "This move will go some way to alleviating the stress caused to residents in the area.
"However, this is only one measure. We are looking into other ways in which we can improve the situation including the possible re-classification of the road as at the moment the road is a C class highway and carrying A or B class traffic."
Clr Litton feels re-classifying the road will help combat the affects of the heavy traffic and attract funding for improving the road surface which will in turn reduce noise.
He added: "Other measures we would like to consider would include speed and traffic control."
Mersey Waste Transport was unavailable for comment on the agreement at the time the Guardian went to press.
