MORE than 1,000 drivers across Warrington, Runcorn and Widnes were punished for using mobile phones while driving within the past 12 months.
New figures released by police this week show 1,018 people were punished with a £60 fine and three points on their licence.
PC Ian Stephenson, who investigates serious collisions in the area, said: "This is something everyone needs to take seriously.
"Common sense should tell you that driving and using your phone is dangerous, yet too many people are ignoring the danger."
