WORK on the new £35,000 car park at Winwick Leisure Centre will begin on Monday.
The extended car park will provide 32 more spaces on Myddleton Lane.
The development was given the go ahead last May, but Winwick Parish Council had to come to an agreement with Warrington Borough Council over landscaping measures before implementing the plans.
Traffic experts also said that the road was too narrow and too much traffic would be fighting for access.
But councillors agreed that letting cars park off the crowded road would improve safety and problems such as parking in Waterworks Lane.
John Gordon, Winwick Parish Council chairman, says it will be a major boost to the village.
He said: "When the work is done it is going to be excellent because car parking space is something we are really short of all over the village, so it will be a benefit not only to the leisure centre and the school but to everybody.
"It will make a big difference."
Eight CCTV cameras have already been installed at the centre at a cost of £18,000 to provide surveillance of the site The parish council liaised with Cheshire Police Crime Prevention Unit to help design the network.
And it is now calling for villagers who may be interested in becoming councillors to help achieve more projects like this.
Les Higgins, Winwick Parish Council clerk, said: "We would welcome residents who are eligible to consider becoming parish councillors and live within the parish boundaries to our next meeting ahead of the May elections.
"Come along on the fourth Tuesday in March and see the type of work that you would do, because if you would like to do your bit for the community here is the opportunity."
