AFTER a visit from the council's environment boss, parks in the district could be set for a makeover.

Paula Darlington, the head of service for environmental management at Warrington Borough Council, was at a meeting of Poulton with Fearnhead parish council.

She was questioned by parish councillors about Parkfields, Larkfields, Paddington Meadows, Enfield Park, Bennetts Recreation ground and Woolston Park.

They wanted to know what the borough council would be doing to keep the parks in good shape.

Mrs Darlington told the parish council that storms last January felled more than 300 trees and put a big strain on her budget, meaning the clean up had to be prioritised with dangerous trees coming at the top of the list.

"We are worried about the trees that have fallen and are now part grown over. People are falling over them," said Clr John Kerr-Brown (Lab - Poplars and Hulme).

He said that since park rangers were centralised they did not spend enough time in Woolston Park and the condition of the park has deteriorated.

"The borough council should be making sure that the park is in good condition. It has deteriorated beyond anything I've seen in the past two years," he said.

Mrs Darlington said the ranger service had to be reshuffled because it was spending above its budget, and added she thought its standard of work was still very good'.

She also said more use should be made of the Friends of Woolston Park.
